NCATE/Project Reflections

As I reflect back on the first week of September, I am amazed at not only how far my class has come but also how much I have learn about my class and grown as a teacher. At first I was impressed how they excepted the challenge to see this project through from the beginning to the end. The students made suggestions and gave solutions to all issues throughout the project. (indicators #1) Each student played an important role in the making of the "movie" as they put their own special touch in making it successful. (indicators #2, 3, 4, 5) I observed the whole way through the project how excited the students were about "their project". (indicator #6) It not only promoted reading but also technology, communication, and problem solving skills. (indicators #7, 9) The project also promoted community, parental, and professional involvement because we all had to come together as a team to "pull it off." (indicator #10) Last of all, this was a great way to assess the students growth in all content areas, as well as their personal growth in self-esteem. (indicator #8)

"My Movie Journal"

I posted a few of the students' journals so that you can see how the project is going from their point of view. Some days are better than others. For the most part, all the students seem to be excited about the whole process. They cannot wait until next week when they finally start to record the movie.

The students started working on the setting for the scenes. They worked together with every aspect of the process. I am so proud how much the students have grown in this project. It is amazing how enthusiastic the class has been throughout the making of the movie.

After returning from our Fall Intersession, the class discussed the costumes that they made and bought for the movie. They shared the ideas that they came up with over the break. On Monday and Tuesday, each group finished brainstorming for ideas for their scenes. I am so proud of all the work that they have put into this project.
On Friday before Fall Intersession, our "director" for the movie reported back to me that they were sure that they would get the movie accomplished on time. They decided to brake the scenes down and only use what was essential to the making of the movie. They cut out scenes and narrowed down characters that were not as important to the plot. They divided the class into four groups in order to get the "ball rolling". Each group picked three scenes to work on together which includes the characters, scene, props, and the scripts. At that point they pulled together and worked as a team to get the job done. I was proud to see their progress and teamwork.
Before our Fall Intersession, the students had a big decision to discuss and work through among themselves. I reminded them of the time line and the calendar of events. The class dicussed the items that had to be completed. They had to evaluate the progress of the project. I gave them a few days to see if they thought they could manage to get the "movie" accomplished on time or if they had to redirect their project. They had to then report back to me and let me know their decision.
